Welcome!

After many years of a siteless website, I stumbled across some software that would make site management simple!

This site will have three goals:

  • Allow Knoop’s from around the world to meet each other.
  • Share information in the form of useful links or articles.
  • Share jokes. We all get them. We all need them, so give ’em up!

Ideas, comments and suggestions are welcome!

  1. Hi Marc!
My name is Terry Knoop and I live in Edmonton. Surfin’ the web and came across your website and registered.
Lots of Knoop’s in Edmonton, and all related. My grandfather, John (Jan) immigrated from Holland in 1956, with his wife Ann and 9(!) kids. One was later born in Canada, making 10. From my understanding, my great-grandfather in Holland had 17 kids – 9 with his first wife, and 8 with his second. (Must have been a busy man!)
My grandfather and his half-brother immigrated to Canada, and my great uncle is still alive and lives in Edson. My grandfather passed away a few years ago.
Most of my aunts and uncles live in the Edmonton region, but a few are now living in Ontario.
I would be interested to hear from other Knoop’s as well, but in my limited web page knowledge I can’t seem to access any comments from other people. I will keep trying.
    Take care,
    Terry

  2. Hello Terry!

Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself.

It seems that we have one thing in common – we’re both second generation Canadian Knoops! I plan on revealing more about my branch here in the Toronto area. My father and his brother immigrated from Germany many years ago.

Most of the contacts I have received from around the world originate from the Holland/Germany/Norway area with a few checkins from American Knoops.

Do you still keep contact with your Dutch relatives? Where abouts in Ontario do your relatives live? I couldn’t imagine fathering 17 children – busy would be an understatement!

You are not experiencing problems in finding comments – there are none! Over the years, I have done a poor job in keeping a single site up and running. I fully intent to maintain this forum and hope to become the authority domain for the Knoop family. If you would like assistance with using the site, use the “Contact Marc” link to the right – I would be more than happy to help and would appreciate to learn more about you and our history(ies)!

    With warm regards,

  3. Hi Marc!
Thanks for the reply. It’s interesting to know about people with the same last name – I grew up really thinking it was only my own relations who were named “Knoop”. Of course, with the internet it’s neat to Google “Knoop” and see what comes up now. Who knew another Knoop invented a system to test hardness of material and it is still used in rating diamonds!
As for my relatives, some are in St. Catherines, some in London and some in Orangeville. Of course, through marriage a few of them now have different names. I still email a few of them occasionally.
As for Dutch relatives, a great aunt and uncle came through a few years ago. Other than that, we have really lost touch as they are all quite elderly or passed on. I would love to visit Holland and see it for myself, but I have a young family and it will be a few years before we will be able to swing it!!
Don’t apologise for the site…I think it’s great!
Now lets hear from a few more Knoops out there and see if we all tie in somewhere!!
    Regards,
    Terry
