In a previous post made here, I made reference to Altenholz, Germany where a Knoop castle could be found.
This site shows a recent picture of the estate and contains more information. For those uninterested in clicking, here is an excerpt:
In 1322, the estate was first mentioned as the property of the nobility and was the home of the Ranztau family between 1400 and 1613. The house remained unchanged except for one renovation undertaken in 1707, and in 1723 it was acquired by the Earl of Baudissin. The financial difficulties of the Baudissins in the 19th century lead to the sale of the property in 1869. In 1903 the manufacturer Gerhard Friedrich Hirschfeld bought the estate and his descendants still own the property today. The priceless furnishings which graced the manor were lost during the occupation following the second world war.
Altenholz will definately be on my my “must visit” list next time I’m in Germany!
