James Knoop

Hi Knoops!

I just found this site, I think it’s great!  I won’t be able to provide a full lineage, but I’ll sketch out some details.

My grandfather moved to Canada from Holland shortly after the Second World War.  Family legend has it that he decided to emigrate after a bomb was dropped in or near the backyard.  My father was two when they came across.  They landed in eastern Canada.  When the family arrived, and there were a lot of them, my father was put on the wrong train.  My grandfather had to go back and get him from somewhere way up north.

The family moved to Edmonton, where a large majority of them still live.  My uncle once did a family tree search and found that our name goes back to Holland from about 1600,  Our original name was Knop I believe.  I don’t have much more information than that.  I hope to learn a few things on this site.
