Hi

My name is Daniel Andreas Knoop, I am 23 years of age, and I recently I got a sudden urge to explore my family name, Knoop. After a quick google I stumbled in to knoop.org and was pleasantly surprised to see I’m not the only one.

I hail from Norway, a small country north in europe. The Knoop in my blood is from my father’s side, who in turn got it from his father. And I have passed it along to my newborn son. I know there are more knoops in another part of the country, but I haven’t gotten around to contact them yet, but I suppose I will after a while.

What I have learned about Knoop, from my family Elders, is that the name was invented/or “taken on” or somesuch, by a man named Henricius Knoop in Holland about 400 years ago. My parents and grandparents have quite alot of pictures of old Knoops, but I’m not sure how old they are. I also know that Knoop used to own one or more tobacco factories in St. Petersburg, Russia, but they where “procured” by the bolsheviks during the russian revolution.

We also have a coat of arms, which I will post as soon as I can get around to pack out my scanner(I’m between homes right now).

I hope to hear from other Knoops, especially from Norway.
